THOUGHTS ON BLOGGING AND WHAT YOU NEED TO START ONE

how to start a blog

Whether we like it or not, blogging is a thing.
More and more people today, as in right now, are thinking about starting a blog and the majority of them are thinking about starting a career out of it.
Yes, you can make money blogging and yes, you can work full time by yourself, for yourself, and do things your way. How? Well, that's the huge ass secret potion we all want to learn, isn't it?
I honestly don't have the answer to that, yet.
But that doesn't change anything. I love writing and blogging is a part of that. I don't make money out of it and I do still enjoy it.
Maybe that's the secret.
Look, I'm no Zoella here, as you can tell, but I believe in dreams and I do believe in working hard in order to get what you want and if blogging is something we enjoy, I think we should treat it more as a business than as a hobby, without giving up the fun.

I've been blogging for years now, and although this little space of the Internet is new, my hands know their way on the keyboard (oh, if my laptops could talk!) and I know some stuff about the business of it. If you're still with me in this fine night, I'm ready to share a piece of cake with you.
So, pen in hand and let's start.

BE PASSIONATE.
Starting a blog is not easy. Yes, you can set up a pretty simple template and link to your social media platforms but keeping a blog is very hard and although a lot of people think of it as the easiest job in the whole Universe, I'm here to tell you they don't know what they're talking about.
Being a blogger is much more than liking pics on Instagram and linking to your one post on Twitter.
It's a real job. And as a real job, it demands hours of work.
So, if you're starting a blog just to earn money or become "famous", I suggest you do an audition for "The Big Brother" because we ain't got time for that.
Passion is key.
If you have something to talk about, whether is books (hi, that's me!), fashion, that tv-show you're obsessed with (also me) then writing about it is like breathing. It's natural, like a second skin.
Blogging requires time and dedication and you can't expect to become an Internet personality after hitting publish on that first post and then hoping for the best. You have to keep writing, keep absorbing from others, you have to dedicate time to it. Always.

ASK FOR HELP.
And I can't stop stressing people about it.
If there's something you're struggling with, ask a friend or a second opinion.
If you're not familiar with HTML or coding in general, ask those who are.
When in doubt, ask for help.

SOCIAL MEDIA.
I'm not gonna lie here and I won't sugar coat anything, so read carefully: if you don't have a Twitter account and Instagram, you can say goodbye to your blogging career.
Social Media is the only way to other people's laptops and if you don't share your content, then you'll let it unseen. And we don't want that, do we?
Blogging is more than just writing and sharing, though!
It's all about building a community and you do that by having at least a Twitter account.
If you still don't have one, hop on to Twitter and sign in, right this second. I'll wait.
Done? Great!
Now you can start following people that inspire you and whose work you admire so you'll have a constant inspiration to keep on working.

I really hope tonight's little chat will motivate you to keep on creating new content, make new friends on Twitter/Instagram and keep your inspiration levels high!
